Widely considered Cormac McCarthy’s masterpiece and one of the greatest American novels ever written, Blood Meridian is a staggering, brutally violent epic. Set in the 1840s along the Texas-Mexico border, it follows “the Kid,” a teenage runaway from Tennessee who falls in with the Glanton gang—a band of ruthless scalp hunters.

Information about this book

Description

At the heart of the gang is Judge Holden, a massive, hairless, and seemingly immortal polymath who serves as one of the most terrifying figures in all of literature. The Judge expounds a nihilistic philosophy that “war is god,” leading the group through a landscape of horrific slaughter and apocalyptic beauty. McCarthy’s prose is biblical, hallucinatory, and unflinching, subverting the traditional Western to explore the inherent cruelty of humanity.
