When ten-year-old Louisa wakes up on a Japanese beach to find her father has vanished, a small family tragedy ripples into a decades-spanning mystery. This sweeping generational saga follows the echoes of that disappearance from a quiet coastal town to the complex geopolitics of North Korea and the United States. Susan Choi delivers a ferociously smart and emotionally resonant epic about the secrets we inherit and the ones we choose to bury. It is a profound exploration of how one moment of loss can reshape the trajectory of a lifetime.
