The Summer Dolphin

By (author) Holly Webb, Illustrated by David Dean

This is a poignant and adventurous addition to Holly Webb’s Summer Wildlife series. The story follows Lillie, who is spending her summer holidays on the scenic coast of Wales. Instead of the fun she imagined, Lillie feels sidelined and lonely; her older sister, Frankie, would rather hang out with their “cool” older cousin, Lana, than play with her.

Information about this book

Description

Everything changes during a family boat trip when Lillie spots a young dolphin calf frolicking in the waves. The connection she feels with the animal provides a temporary escape from her family drama. However, after her sister and cousin are particularly unkind, Lillie decides to prove she isn’t “the baby” of the family anymore. She sets off on a risky solo trek to Worm’s Head, a tidal island accessible only via a rocky causeway at low tide. When the tide begins to turn, Lillie finds herself in a race against time and the powerful sea, leading to a dramatic rescue and a heartwarming lesson about sibling bonds.
